Haryana
Haryana, the 'Green Land' of India
came into existence with the reorganisation of Punjab on 1st November, 1966.
This ancient land has a glorious history of over 5,000 years and is regarded as
the birthplace of Indian Vedic Civilisation. It is considered to be the home of
the legendary Bharata dynasty, which has given the name 'Bharat' to India.
Haryana has been immortalised by its close association with the great epic
Mahabharta. Lord Krishna preached his philosophy of Karma and Dharma through
'Bhagwad Gita' over here. Legendary sage Ved Vyasa is believed to have composed
Mahabharata in Sanskrit on the banks of river Saraswati, which once flowed
through the State. No doubt the State is studded with numerous pilgrim centres.
Haryana continued to play a leading role in the history of India, till the
advent of Muslims and the rise of Delhi as the imperial city. The three battles
of Panipat are regarded as the turning points of Indian history.
